Just completed this 68-bridge repair contract for NYSDOT covered bridges within Westchester County, requiring coordination with Traffic Control, NYSDOT, NY Thruway Authority, The State of Connecticut, and NYC Environmental Authority. Bridges such as the Southbound Taconic Parkway and Croton Reservoir required containment to protect the NYC water supply, while supporting the spandrel beams during removal and replacement of spandrel beam ends, work that entailed full penetration ultrasonic tested welds of the highest quality. Similarly the I-684 corridor, bridges such as the Beaver Dam bridges where main span beam webs were crushing under traffic pounding and loads or the twin curved ramps from I-287 to I-684 that required all new pier cap bearing pedestals, new bearings, replacement of the armored road joints.
AMTRAK / American Recovery Act Thames River Bridge between New London and Groton, Connecticut
An Amtrak main rail line between Washington, New York and Boston crosses a bridge built at the turn of last century over the Thames River. Rail traffic could not be hampered, both for Amtrak and for the freight lines that use this critical roadbed. Full containment of the bridge was installed, the structure sandblasted and repainted. With multiple 375 foot long spans over the river, critical truss bottom chord members were found to require replacement. Temporary tension members were installed, the deteriorated original bottom chord members removed and replaced with new members created in eDASKAL's AISC Certified Steel Fabrication Shop.
